• By combining collaborative efforts, strategic investments, and inclusive policies, Kenya and its African partners are positioning the continent to lead the global clean energy revolution.

Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to a Just Energy Transition, a shift to renewable energy that is fair, inclusive, and sustainable. The government aims to ensure that no community especially marginalized groups is left behind in the country’s green transformation.

On May 29, 2025, Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno hosted a high-level delegation from the Just Transition Platform, led by Ms. Cherono Sego, to discuss deeper collaboration between the Ministry and the platform. The delegation included representatives from Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and Benin.

The talks focused on practical ways the Ministry and Just Transition Platform can jointly support Kenya’s climate goals through people-centered and equity-driven strategies.

The transition, which was launched on May 28, calls for robust and transformative climate action across four critical thematic areas including a just energy transition in Africa and Agriculture, Forestry and Land Use sector among others.

These pillars will serve as a framework for transformative climate policies that ensure inclusivity, fairness, and resilient both in Kenya’s climate response and Africa.

Kenya’s leadership in climate action was recently spotlighted at the Africa Climate Summit 2023, where the continent united around the goal of a Just Energy Transition.

By combining collaborative efforts, strategic investments, and inclusive policies, Kenya and its African partners are positioning the continent to lead the global clean energy revolution.

As Kenya advances its climate agenda, it continues to champion a green future where everyone has a stake and a benefit in the journey toward sustainability.
